Alcohol treatment in Saskatchewan

The population of Saskatchewan has sought help by going to alcohol treatments before. And there are still people in Saskatchewan who need help in order to stop drinking alcohol. There are people who dedicate their lives to helping addicts by running alcohol treatments all over Saskatchewan. There are almost 400 alcohol and drug treatments available in the province and those include detox centres, AA meetings, residential alcohol  treatments, and even aftercare programs. All those different types of alcohol treatments mean that one can find the alcohol treatment that suits him best.

Saskatchewan Alcohol Statistics

Alcohol is the most popular drug in Saskatchewan. Although it is neither the most addictive nor the most dangerous of all drugs, it is still a major problem for the population when it is abused. The statistics (dated from 2004) show that 78.2 per cent of the Saskatchewan people said they had drunk alcohol within the 12 months prior to the survey. Alcohol use is not often seen as a problem, it is a part of people’s daily life and so they’re not necessarily aware of its adverse effects.

There are some negative effects that alcohol can have, especially if one drinks a lot of alcohol. And Saskatchewan has been having a problem with alcohol binge drinking within the youth. People often start drinking around Grade 9. When looking at the rates of how many students drink alcohol, the biggest increase occurs between Grade 7 and Grade 9. The problem related to alcohol drinking within the youth of Saskatchewan is that there are often incidents that end up with the students injured of even sometimes dead.

Alcohol is a big issue for the officials of Saskatchewan; it costs a lot of money. Because of the deaths, the illnesses and the costs in general (for treatment and such), alcohol costs for Saskatchewan can go up to over 508 million dollars every year. The province is trying to educate the younger people and make them understand that there are other ways to have fun or to celebrate certain things than by drinking alcohol. In doing so, maybe we can bring their awareness level high enough early on so that in the future, not so many people drink alcohol.

Drunk driving in Saskatchewan

Drunk driving is a major problem in Saskatchewan. Alcohol contributes to over 1,500 car accidents on the roads. And the majority of those are caused by people between 16 and 24 years old. There are many people who die from drunk driving accidents, and if they don’t, they are often injured in a bad way. The authorities are really trying to get people to understand how important it is to not drink and drive and not let other people drink and drive. Because sometimes the car accidents caused by drunk driving include other cars and other innocent people sometimes lose their life because of it. It is very important that people understand this so that Saskatchewan roads can become safer.
