New Brunswick Alcohol Treatment

New Brunswick, although a smaller province, is still in need of some alcohol treatments in order to help those in the population who are addicted to alcohol. There are many types of alcohol treatment present in New Brunswick which all have the same purpose, curing alcohol addiction. There are 119 treatment locations extant in New Brunswick. Those include alcohol and drug treatment. Many people are looking for help in treating their alcoholism and this help does exist in New Brunswick. It can be found in AA meetings or in more advanced alcohol treatment program.

New Brunswick Alcohol Statistics

The problems with alcohol are present in all parts of the population of New Brunswick, whether it is with students or with the elderly. First, let’s start with the elderly. There is an overall trend across Canada which shows that alcohol use declines as age advances. New Brunswick is very similar to that. In 2002, there was a survey done with the elderly people of New Brunswick in order to determine the prevalence of alcohol use. They found that almost 52 percent of the people (55 years old and above) said they had taken alcohol during the previous year. Of course, there are more males than females that drink. Actually, when talking about the abstainers in New Brunswick within the elders’ community, there are more than double if not triple the women who are abstainers compared to the men.

Some of those people are actually partaking in daily drinking. The survey found that over 5 percent of the seniors reported that they drank alcohol at least once a day over the previous year. Of course, males were way more prone to daily drinking than females (8.9 percent compared to 3.4 percent). This is clearly a sigh of alcohol addiction and those people should get help. This is especially true for seniors as their body or not necessarily as strong as they should be.

Now as for the students, there are 50 percent of all students in New Brunswick who reported having drunk alcohol at least once. There were 26 percent who admitted to drinking more than once every month. Within this community, the percentages of males and females drinking alcohol are the same. Most of the drinking starts in Grade 9. But a lot of people drink alcohol when in Grade 12. According to the survey, there are 80 percent of the students who drink alcohol in Grade 12. This is a major problem as those habits usually go on even when they are adults. This means that in the future, there are many who will still have a problem related to alcohol consumption.

There are students who also engage in dangerous activities because of alcohol. For example, 5 percent of the students said that they had driven a car while having drunk too much alcohol right before. There were 20 percent of the students who admitted to getting in a car with an impaired driver. These kinds of statistics are really dangerous as drunk driving takes the lives of many people every year.
