Alcohol Abuse Quebec city

Alcohol is a problem in Quebec City. Although it may not show as much as in other big cities like Montreal, Toronto, etc. There are still many people who need help where alcohol is concerned. The officials of Quebec City are putting their foot down and are fining the people who are drunk in public. That way the streets and parks can be safer.

There are a lot of drinking that happens in Quebec City during the winter. First there is Christmas and New Year’s Eve and there is the winter carnival. During this time, the majority of the Quebec population gets together to celebrate and it often leads to a lot of drinking. Alcoholic  beverages are served at this carnival and it can lead to serious binge drinking.

There are also some people who drink alcohol while they are pregnant. This can lead to Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder which is very serious and can lead to bad consequences. Although there have been a lot of improvement as far as FASD is concerned in Quebec City, there are still some people who are drinking while pregnant. Some women are simply uneducated and think that one or two drinks once in a while won’t hurt the baby. But any alcohol can really affect the foetus.

The statistics show that alcohol is still a problem in Quebec. Out of all the people aged 15 years old or older, there were 31,8 percent of them which admitted to drinking alcohol at least 2 times or more every week. And the statistics also showed that the men were a lot more into that pattern of drinking than the women. The rate was 40,8 percent for the males and 22,5 percent for the females. It also showed statistics for binge drinking, which is a very dangerous pattern of drinking. The study showed that 39,5 percent of them said they had taken part in binge drinking. Again the men, with 48,2 percent, surpass the females, who have a rate of 28,9 percent in Quebec.

In all of Quebec, it was estimated that 1,9 percent of the people aged of 15 years or older are liable to develop an addiction to alcohol. This number is not exact as one cannot always predict how life will turn out. This is why Quebec citizens need support and Alcohol detox and rehab if necessary.
