The city of Montreal has been known for its night scene and that unfortunately usually involves alcohol. It is very important that there be alcohol treatments in the city as there are a lot of people suffering from alcohol addiction. There are 50 alcohol treatments that do their proceedings in English. And within those 50, 35 are locations for AA meetings which can help someone get over their addiction to alcohol. Of course, there are also a lot of alcohol treatments in Quebec which are in French in Montreal. One should look at all the options available before making a decision.
Alcohol abuse in Montreal
The city of Montreal in general drinks a fair amount of alcohol. There are 7.8 percent of the people who suffer from drug or alcohol abuse. This can lead to several other problems. For example, there can be obesity or depression. Furthermore, there was a study made linking obesity, alcohol problems, and depression. The study showed that at age 21, there are 8 percent for the males and 12 percent for the females have two of the three problems presented in this study.
In Quebec province, in 2003, there were 85 percent of the people (15 years old and older) who are currently drinking alcohol, but of various frequency and quantity. As far as binge drinking goes, there was a survey made with people of different age brackets. This was in 2003 and asked if the people had drunk excessively during the last twelve months. The results were as followed. First the highest percentage was between the age of 20 and 24 years old with 63.8 percent of the people who had drunk excessively. The second highest percentage was for the age bracket of 15 and 19 with 58.2 percent. The age bracket that came in third place as far as binge drinking goes were the people between the age of 25 and 34 years old with 51.9 percent.
Those kinds of numbers show just how many people are at risk of developing a problem with alcohol. The city officials put in much effort to curb the problems related to alcohol addiction in general. There are also many people who need alcohol treatments and have various choices available for them in Montreal. That way the city makes sure that the many people who need help can get it easily, with a lot of free treatments and group therapies.
Drunk Driving in Montreal
There are still a lot of people in Montreal who are affected by drunk driving or by the drunk driving of others. It is still a problem present in Montreal and the officials are doing a lot to curb this problem every year.
There have been several studies made regarding drunk driving. And it surprisingly came out that the people between the age of 16 and 24 years old are less likely to be found on the roads impaired. But when one drinks, he is at least five more likely to get into a traffic accident since one’s reflexes are slowed down and one’s perceptions are also affected by alcohol. This rate is very much increased 40 times over for people between the age of 16 and 19 years old as they often have pressure from friends and end up driving more.
And actually drunk driving is three times more frequent with people who have an actual problem with alcohol than those who drink alcohol occasionally. Out of all cases of drunk driving cases, 37 percent were alcoholics or people with a problem related to alcohol and only 13 percent were occasional drinkers. Drunk driving can lead to many other problems which can be serious and even fatal. And actually from 1961 to 2004, 47 percent of al spinal injuries recorded in Montreal were related to drunk driving.
Driving while under the influence of alcohol is a serious offense and can create many types of injuries, some of which can even be fatal. And not only can it be dangerous for the driver but it is often very dangerous for the other people involved.
