Moncton is located in New Brunswick and has often acted as the source for transportation for the Maritime Provinces. The city has a population of about one-hundred and thirty thousand people and it is the largest city within New Brunswick.
It is interesting to note that this city is one of the ten fastest growing cities in the entire nation. Moncton suffered two tough economic collapses, but has managed to recover both times. It now has one of the greatest economies of the nation, and consistently maintains low unemployment rates - even in a recession period.
General Situation
Moncton is actually a pretty responsible city when it comes to alcoholic consumption. To maintain such a thriving economy and low unemployment rate during a recession is impressive for any area, but to keep alcohol related issues at a minimum is an even greater accomplish. Of course, Moncton still has its alcohol related problems.

The interesting thing to take note of is the fact that males and females drink the exact same amount of alcohol in this age group. Usually, the males will consume more than the females. This is a common scenario through Ontario and British Columbia; however, not so here. The percentage of male to female drinkers in the teenage age group is so close that it is a cause for concern.
It demonstrates that both genders are willing to drink and consume alcohol, and that the problems that are imminent from arising will affect both genders. If Moncton wants to reduce the chance of a sudden spike of teenage alcohol issues, they must ensure the proper education is being provided to them.
Driving While Impaired
Driving under the influence continues to be a problem within Moncton. Not so much for the older generations, but again, the source of this problem stems from the teenagers. In fact, five percent admit to drunk driving on at least one occasion, and twenty percent explain they rode with someone who was driving while impaired.
These are scary statistics, but true. The problem within Moncton is not really the older, matured civilians, but the teenagers. They need to realize what happens when people drink and drive and they must start believing that they can get caught for doing so. This can be done by city officials reexamining the educational programs on these subjects, and allowing police to create road stops.
