Alcohol intoxication
Alcohol intoxication is defined as a person losing control over their behavior. It impairs the person's judgment, thinking and physical capabilities such as walking correctly and driving. It is almost like seeing a split personality in some people. The nice, quiet, shy guy at the office turns into the party hound after having a couple of drinks. The snobby, class act secretary turns into a flirtatious siren making promises to the guy she may not have looked at during the week. Of course, she may have had a secret crush on him and the excessive consumption of alcohol made her lose all inhibition.
Alcohol has always been a favorite at parties and get together, almost since the dawn of time. It allows people to relax and feel less inhibited and is favored for just that reason. However, modern equipment such as field tractors, airplanes, motor boats and vehicles came along and people had to seriously address the fact that drinking and operating machinery do not mix.
It is no secret that young men and women can loosen up and become friendlier after consuming alcohol. You go to a club on Friday night with your girlfriends and there he is, the guy you adored all through high school or college. He may end up reciprocating your feelings but if not, you could be in for heartache the following day. Worse yet, he may politely fend you off that same night and you turn to someone else because you are intoxicated and not thinking clearly. This could end up being a lesson not soon forgotten.
Alcohol intoxication is a serious situation because people make choices they would not have made if they had been sober. They enjoy the relaxing feeling that comes over them and when it disappears, they find themselves wanting it back. Unfortunately, along with that feeling soon comes incoherency and dependency. The body craves alcohol as strongly and as detrimental as it does any other substance.
Before going to that party or club, keep in mind that you are aware of the dangers of alcohol. If you are old enough to party, you are old enough to understand the facts behind alcohol. Set up a designated driver or make sure you do not drive to the club to start with but go in a cab. The cab fare there and back is nothing compared to the price you could pay in the long run if you get behind the wheel of a vehicle, physically, emotionally, legally and financially.
Alcohol intoxication takes away your ethics, frame of mind and coherent choices. Make them ahead of time if you plan to drink.
